Organizer Resources

You don’t need a statewide campaign to make a difference. Many of the most effective changes start with one city council, one school board, or one local business. Whatever your issue, the basic organizing skills are the same: show public support, get the attention of decision-makers, and get your story in front of the press.

Rather than duplicate work that’s already been done well, the Save The Albatross Coalition recommends the free organizer toolkits from our colleagues at Beyond Plastics. Their step-by-step guides cover:

  • Starting a petition and building your contact list
  • Writing media advisories, news releases, and letters to the editor
  • Organizing a sign-on letter, call-in day, or rally
  • Meeting with your elected representatives
  • Hosting panels, virtual town halls, news conferences, and plastic-free events

Pair these tools with STAC’s own issue-specific resources, including our Connect the Cap model ordinance and the legislation we support, to turn a local concern into a local law.
